According to a study by Monitor Deloitte, the world's leading professional services and consulting firm, in collaboration with Playtomic, the leading racquet sports technology platform, the padel has experienced historic growth over the past five years, with a 181% increase in the number of clubs in Europe.

The study provides for investment in new courts of more than one billion euros over four years.

The creation of new courts in Europe has tripled since 2016 – reaching almost 27 – a figure which translates into an annual growth of more than 1000%. Forecasts, according to the report, indicate an increase in investments of up to 20 billion euros over the next four years.

This growth is reflected in the opening of 98 courts and 29 clubs each week during the pandemic (2020-2021); 10 courts and 147 clubs in total. While in 2 there were 994 courts and 2016 clubs, these figures increase to 10 courts and 151 clubs in 2. The growth ranking is led by Spain, Italy, Sweden, France and Belgium. In fact, in countries like Spain, Sweden, Portugal and Finland, the number of padel is already equal to, or even greater than, the number of tennis courts.

When it comes to social media and the internet, it is essential to note that the word “padel” has increased, in Google searches, by 300% since 2016, although “tennis” registers five times more, indicating “enormous potential growth in the visibility of the term”.

To give another example, the number of views of the World Padel Tour on YouTube was 22 million in 2016, and reached 145 million in 2021. Views to which must be added the number of followers registered by the main actors and players of padel on Instagram in 2021, with growth ranging from 100% to nearly 500%.

An investment opportunity?

  1. Those are very much impressive data supporting the growth of padel, surely this is a huge investment opportunity! Not only the construction of a padel court in the nearby sports center, but rather the investments in advertising deals of the major brands can further strengthen the growth. I always find it exciting to see which brands support which sports, which sometimes shows big differences, such as sponsors in women's soccer as opposed to sponsors in the e-sports business. What brands do you think would work best for padel?

  2. Growth statistics on padel are certainly impressive. I could imagine an investment in the material to be fruitful. For instance, rackets could see considerable improvement and the major racket brands have not made big advancements into the market. However, that should also indicate a risk, which leads to the big players to be hesitant. Maybe sponsoring deals and media capitalization are more constructive. Where in the world of padel would you put your money on?

  3. Hii Johannes & Richard!! Thank you so much for commenting on this topic. Regarding the question on the best brands, we have seen that in tennis brands such as WiIson, Babolat, Head and etc. are dominating the tennis area I don't think they will miss this opportunity the get involved with such growing sport that includes a recket and not be the leading brands in the future. Even tough like Richard said they still have not made big advancements into the market but with their possibilities, Padel big investments are inevitable. Taking into account that I am ex tennis player and pretty much know the area of tennis and now padel, as well. I would definitely start with investing in building as much padel courts as possible and improving existing padel clubs to make it even more professional because Padel Community is where the money stands.
I hope I answered your questions properly.
If you have any more questions do not hesitate to ask me!!

  4. I think that padel in Europe is a very good investment, due to the exponential increase it has had in recent years. Currently, 2 million people play padel regularly, and I am convinced that the number will increase, and the numbers can justify it. I would invest in paddle tennis, but I would make a short-term investment, since I think that in 2/3 years paddle tennis will not grow anymore.

    1. Hi Alex, my opinion is different and actually quite polemic, i think that at some point in the next 5-10 years, padel will surpass tennis as the most played racket sport in the world. Don't you think?

  7. I think, a way in which Padel will really increase its audience into global scale, is participating in the olympics. It is said that they will participate in the South American games of 2022, brining a massive new audience. This not only raises awareness, but allows viewers to think of it as a competitive sport at a high level. Therefore I think investing in new countries such as South America and America could be a massive opportunity for the sport.

  8. Wow it is so impressive how padel had growth over the recent years, I think yes it is an investment opportunity, because there are lots of countries that aren't playing a lot of padel and I think they will. Where to you think the roof of padel is? How many growth can they have?

    1. Hi Ricard, honestly limitations are very high. Padel is outgrowing rapidly and taking places in some main stadiums all around the world such as Roland Garros court Philippe Chatrier. It's also taking very big sponsors and general interest is huge.

  9. As you mentioned padel has been growing for a few years now and I think that these last few years as the world padel tour has boomed in the media, people have gone crazy with watching and playing padel. That's why I think that investing in padel is a good investment.
I really liked the blog because padel is growing as a great sport.

  10. OMG I thought that padel was increasing its numbers but not in this fast way, personally I think that many companies should collaborate with important padel tournaments basically because what we know by fashionable sport of the future padel is one of them.

  11. I personally believe that this sport is growing massively. And I can speak from my personal point of view. During the past 2 years, all of my family members have been taking padel practices. And nowadays we can all go play padel together some weekend. SO I can verify that this sport is growing massively.

  12. If you can afford to invest and you want to do it in a sport I think padel is the best option. It is an excellent opportunity to invest in the sport of the moment.

  13. Padel is definitely a good opportunity for investment. It's on of the sports with the biggest growth in the past years, as you said there is an increase in clubs of 181% in the past years. Especially I think it's a great opportunity to invest in it in countries where the sport is still not as popular and the growth of the sport still hasn't been seen. I'm sure that if there is a good investment, this sport will finally arrive to the country and you will have the opportunity to be on of the first ones and will have massive profits.

  14. Do you think that it is a momentary boom and that in 20 years padel will be unknown again or do you think that it will continue to grow without stopping?
